The story began in 1971 at Yale Law School.
Both Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham were ambitious law students with a strong interest in public service and politics. According to accounts they have shared over the years, Hillary approached Bill after noticing him repeatedly looking at her in the library.
What started as a simple conversation quickly developed into a friendship and then a relationship.

Building a Future Together
After graduating from law school, the couple moved to Arkansas, where Bill Clinton began pursuing elected office.
They married on October 11, 1975.

As Bill advanced through Arkansas politics, eventually becoming governor, Hillary built her own successful legal career and became known for her advocacy on issues involving children, education, and families.

The couple’s national profile rose dramatically during Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.
After a hard-fought election, Bill Clinton defeated incumbent President George H. W. Bush and became the 42nd President of the United States.
When he entered the White House in January 1993, Hillary Clinton became First Lady.
Unlike many previous First Ladies, Hillary took an active role in policy discussions and public initiatives. Her visibility and influence generated both praise and criticism, but few doubted her impact.
She became one of the most influential First Ladies in modern American history.
