Twenty-one-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas set out to enjoy an adrenaline-filled experience at Ponte do Esqueleto, also known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil. Like many young people documenting memorable moments online, she shared photos and videos from the outing with friends and followers.
No one could have imagined those posts would become her final messages.
Hours before the accident, Maria appeared excited and full of energy. She shared smiling photos with event staff and proudly displayed the identification bracelets she received upon arrival.
One caption, written playfully and without any indication of the tragedy to come, has since touched people around the world.
“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”
What was intended as a lighthearted joke has taken on a deeply emotional meaning in the wake of her passing.
According to local reports, Maria was participating in a commercial bridge-jumping activity operated by a private adventure company.
Witnesses say participants were being guided through safety procedures before taking the leap from the bridge.
However, early reports and witness accounts suggest a critical safety failure may have occurred.
Investigators are examining claims that Maria’s safety rope may not have been properly connected to her harness before she jumped.
Videos shared online reportedly show staff preparing participants moments before the activity began, though officials have not yet confirmed exactly what happened.
Witnesses at the scene described a moment of confusion and panic as people realized something had gone terribly wrong.

Despite their efforts, Maria could not be saved.
