At first glance, this picture looks like a simple gathering of adorable orange cats sitting together in a colorful meadow. You might quickly count the obvious faces and think you have the answer.
But look again.
The image is designed to make your brain focus on the largest and most noticeable cats first while overlooking smaller cats hidden between them. Some are easy to see, while others blend into the surrounding group so naturally that you may not notice them until you deliberately slow down and examine the picture.
That is what makes this type of visual puzzle so entertaining.
The challenge is simple: How many cats can you spot in total?
Before checking the answer, take another look at the image. Don’t rush. Start at the top and slowly work your way downward. Pay attention not only to the large cats but also to the tiny faces tucked between them.
Why are optical illusions so difficult?
Optical illusions work because the human brain does not process every detail of a scene individually. Instead, the brain rapidly organizes visual information and tries to identify the most important objects.
