What should have been a joyful family celebration turned into a devastating scene of violence in Stockton, California, after gunfire erupted at a banquet hall where a child’s birthday party was taking place.
At least four people were killed and 10 others were initially reported injured following the shooting on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Authorities said approximately 14 people had been struck by gunfire in the initial reports, while later reporting indicated that the number of injured victims increased as the investigation continued.
The tragedy has shocked the local community, particularly because the gathering was a family celebration that should have been filled with laughter, food, photographs, and memories.
Instead, families were suddenly confronted with fear, injuries, and the loss of loved ones.
A celebration interrupted by gunfire
According to authorities, the shooting happened at a banquet hall on Lucile Avenue in Stockton shortly before 6 p.m.
The location was being used for a family gathering, and officials confirmed that a child’s birthday party was taking place when the shooting occurred.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said approximately 14 people were initially reported to have been struck by gunfire.
Four victims were confirmed dead.
Several others were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The ages of the victims ranged from children to adults, underscoring the devastating nature of an attack that occurred during what was supposed to be an ordinary family event.
The identities of those killed were not immediately released as authorities worked to notify relatives.
Children were among those killed

Later reporting identified the four people who died as being 8, 9, 14, and 21 years old.

Authorities believe the shooting may have been targeted

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office was leading the investigation with assistance from the Stockton Police Department, Manteca Police Department, the district attorney’s office, and the FBI.
