Stephen Hawking did not leave behind a prophecy of doom. He left behind a reminder of possibility—both good and bad.
The same intelligence that allows humanity to understand the universe also gives us the power to protect our own world.
Whether Earth becomes unlivable or sustainable for future generations is not predetermined. It depends on decisions being made right now.
And that is perhaps the most important part of his warning.
