The millionaire found his employee fainted in the laundry room… and when he discovered the reason, he was devastated.

The ambulance arrived within minutes. The paramedics spoke of dehydration, extreme exhaustion, and possible malnutrition. Rodrigo went with her to the hospital without thinking.

In the waiting room, he made calls. In less than an hour, he discovered the truth.

Alma worked at his house from six in the morning until two in the afternoon. Then she waited tables at a restaurant in Condesa until ten at night. After that, she cleaned offices until four in the morning.

Three jobs.

Every day.

She slept three hours, ate almost nothing, and carried a debt that was not even hers. She had signed as a guarantor for a cousin named Verónica, who had disappeared with the money.

When the doctor came out, his expression was serious.

“Her body shut down from lack of rest and food. If she continues like this, next time she may not wake up.”

The words pierced Rodrigo’s chest.

He asked to see her.

When he entered, Alma was awake but weak, connected to an IV. The moment she saw him, she tried to sit up.

“Mr. Aranda… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause trouble. I’ll come back to work tomorrow. Please don’t fire me.”

Rodrigo froze.

She was not thinking about her health. She was thinking about not losing her job.

“You are not coming back tomorrow,” he said firmly.

Alma began to cry.

“You don’t understand. If I don’t work, I can’t pay. If I don’t pay, they’ll sue me. I have no one.”

Rodrigo sat beside the bed.

“Now you have someone who is listening.”

Alma lowered her gaze.

“You didn’t even know my name.”

That sentence hurt more than any insult.

Rodrigo swallowed hard.

“And that is something I will never forgive myself for.”
